My Take:

These are created with swinging of the dust wiping brush with chinese calligraphy ink!

All these are inspired by the robot drawings by Peter

The sense of direction and the aggressiveness from the brush strokes

The ink blots are left by having the ink on the previous pages passed through. They are joined up like “connect the dots” with the glass deco liner

Marks are created randomly with splatters and a wooden stick dipped in ink. Combination of Sol LeWitt and Peter?

Surprising Monoprint that created surprising results~

Peter Foucault’s works are a mix of precision vs energy. There is a sense of wildness u see in Pollock’s work and yet the details in LeWitt’s works. He is really an interesting artist i want to know more about. It helped alot in my

I really had fun during these creation. It was a mix of “wanting to know what you want to do” and “be bold and forget about whatever restrictions”.

While i am working on the lines….

Early Monoprints and automated techniques

Monoprinting when i didnt have any reference artists in mind. Just doing whatever that came to mind.

This was very interesting as this print is actually created by wiping the glass table with ink on it. As I realised that it actually creates interesting visual texture, i decided to swirl it to create a sense of direction/movement

With the link on the table(again) i decided to dilute it with water at certain areas and added some paint. I also used the spray bottle(sprayed on table) before gently pressing my paper on top

Another attempt at table wiping, those strong lines at the end are actually…… (fingers)

This idea was actually created by twisting and twirling kitchen towels and pressing them using the machine (inspired by Lipeng’s prints). I really like the mini textured lines that was printed too. And of course, i did not throw the kitchen towels away! They are valuable and they are printed with ink too!

Masking tape creates great block out~ and very clear negative spaces

I used the roller and pressed some ink on one side of the paper. Was thinking of trying out Rorschach Technique, folded the paper into half and this was what it created. It didnt have the same value because the ink has already been half dried? I suppose i will need a wet ink to create that

usually we will only think of using pencil with brass rubbing techinique, however i had this checkered cloth, and was wondering if it will work with ink too? And indeed it did!

This was probably done with tea leaves~

I was just drawing and splashing ink on the plate itself directly

The papers used here came really useful during my creation of lines XD

SPLATTER!! and letting ink drip. One of the more natural way to see how ink flows~ It kinda look like a giraffe with a tree isnt it ww

FUMAGE ON PAPER TOWEL! it was easier to get marks on here..maybe because its thinner? however it is easier to “brown” the surface too

FUMAGEEE on drawing paper. I really like doing this ^^

Fumage on chinese rice paper. Due to the super thin paper, it got burnt easily

Strings and ink. look at those furry ends. i love them

The patterns created by this fern is really unique <3

They look like they are drawn by a almost dried flat tip marker

double print on one surface~loved that “shadow”/depth effect created with each tape

This was another one created with spraying and “cleaning” the table

Rolling the roller multiple times on different paper creates a different texture

This is a gallery of automated techniques and monoprints that i did earlier! As they are all in A3 size, i wont be able to put much of the original prints in my sketchbook and it would be a waste to not document these.

Peter Foucault! and some of my works

With some researching on the internet, i found another artist that creates interesting works! The artist is Peter Foucault.

In his latest series, he created a robot which can perceive sound, making use of sound in the environment to create art pieces! The art piece created is similar to automated techniques due to the end result cannot be predicted due to the never constant human traffic.

My take on his works~~

It was initially just twigs and dried leaves when i first started out the monoprint. As i continued on, i didnt want to destroy the design that were made earlier, hence i used the twigs to splat ink and draw lines randomly. I am quite pleased that it came out so nice! Time for more experiment!!

Artist in action

One of the artist that impresses me the more i know about him is Jackson Pollock.

These are the works that i really like from Jackson Pollock. The depth and the movement that can be seen from these random lines. I will definitely try this.

i like these simple, flowly lazy looking lines

the splashes is definitely something that i will try to include within my creations

they look like cute little spirits dancing

Other than the very dense pieces like above, these were a series that caught my attention too! Its not very complicated but with this limited amount of strokes and splashes, the effect and emotion that is created is very impactful.

While reading the interviews found in “Jackson Pollock Works|Writing|Interviews”, i found something very useful.

It is regarding the technique he uses to create some of this art.

The way different papers work is something that I need to considered too.

The sentence he said that hit me really hard.And something that i feel that we should consider about.

I feel that i am officially an university student now

I realised that while researching artists on the internet is useful, with so many information around, i wasn’t able to get anywhere far with it. Hence, since we have the wonderful resources right at our doorstep, i made a trip down to the library to search for some books in the artists.
