What Motivates Me To Work On This Project?

After exploring various and different practices, I felt close to heart, when I’m engaging with people in my work. Especially in the model of design thinking, I could sense the relevant of design in the needs of society. And I would like to see design to be my contribution toward the world.

Empathy is at the heart of design
Pioneer of human-centred design, IDEO, widely influence my perspective toward design. They describe empathy a unique human trait, second nature to us; without the understanding of others, design is a pointless task.

So when it comes to working with people, or having the people factor in my storytelling. I translate this into spatial value of communal living, public spaces and the identity of a place.

I often question how much will the society change in the near future, how would the things I grew up with, be able to stay relevance in the future? There are many things that could fade out with time, such as the hawker and wet markets business, smaller communal/living space.

In my other posts [1] [2], I am covering the current situation of urban development and the impact toward the identity of a place. Such events make me want to understand the emotions, people go through when facing such transaction of time. And I will go into details in the individual post.

From my exploration of urban development, it branches out into the topic of communal space and the loss of identity. The sense of community around our living quarters, and how we could reestablish that identity that was lost we starting developing housing in smaller spaces.

What Are The Objectives?

Ideally, the outcome of this project is to document how people perceive the changes, how adaptive are they toward the solutions provided. The project is the reflection of how a change in communal spaces can be.

AUDIENCE.

People I want to influence are the everyday adults in Singapore, letting them see a fresh pespective of how communal spaces can be reimagine.

FORMAT.

Strengths and interest.

Strengths Interests
ideation interacting with everyday people
multidisciplinary vanishing memories (trade,space,culture)
design thinking
good design (morally & ethnically)

How do I envision the work to turn out?

A reflection of how I see communal spaces can be.
Recently, I heard there might be opportunity to do oversea immersion for FYP in London, in relation to my project, the cultural context of another country handle their public spaces will be part of my research outreach.

What are values/contribution/ reaction I hope the work will be able to translate?

To recognise value in everyday things we have, see and use.
