I’ve decided to sum up my development here, as whenever I need to, I would always check back and reflect on how much this project had changed and grew. And my main motivation as far as I can see remain undeterred; my personal interest in playful designs.
How much has the project had changed over time?
I take this opportunity to look back at my past notes and pick up anything that might still be of relevant

Started off the project looking into redesigning public space so that strangers are incline toward interaction. How certain factors such as urban living and fear of stranger dangers contribute to this minimized stranger interactions. |
Keywords: (+) Urban Rhythms, (+) Pedestrian Walking Speed, (+)Stress, Playful City, Slow Living (-) Stranger Interaction (less emphasis) While covering concerns on stranger interaction, research led me to find that boring urban streets make pedestrians fasten their pace on the streets, partly resulting to lower pubic interactions. Public interaction is just a symptom of a larger issue of concern, as I start to realize. Thus the project went deeper into the issue of urban living and the urban stressors.Improving stranger interaction is more of a secondary outcome afterward. |
Keywords: (+) Urbanization, (+) Pace of Life, Pedestrian Walking Speed, Stress, Playful City, Slow Living At this stage, the direction is much similar to my current outcome. But lack a coherent voice of how each factors are connected to each other. The problem paradigm here was divided; to decide if the cause is a space (bad city design) or user’s problem (urban stress). At the end, I choose the route of the users; focusing on causes such as work stress, the lack of play in adult. *The setting of the public streets is still set as the intervention ground, just less focus on street planning. |
Keywords: Urban Living & Urban Stress, Pace of Life, Playfulness (-) Pedestrian Walking Speed, (-) Slow Living (both less emphasis) Here I started to define how urban living develops stress for people, what are the cause (fast pace living & perception of time) and the effect (mental well-being, social capacity). My problem is much set in stone here. Next was the direction lead to the design intention of having play |
Keywords: Urban Living & Urban Stress, Pace of Life, Playfulness The act of play in the majority of my research, cover as a distressing behavior. I see alot of bodies of studies cover the effect of play in child development, but a few touch on the benefit of play after childhood; as adult, how can play help us?. |
