Description of Project:

Our final project is a scripted live broadcast that revolves around surveillance and cybersecurity. We used hacking (data transmission) and identity theft over the internet (Facebook) as our main focus in the broadcast.

A virtual space creates a social situation without traditional rules of etiquette and authenticity. Clarita takes on the position of a hacker while Ling Ern is the victim in this episode.

 

STORYLINE / CONTENT:

Clarita’s Facebook is hacked by a mysterious person who wears a black hoodie and sunglasses. Hacker hacks into the facebook account of Clarita and then posts a poll on her Facebook page, asking her friends to choose what the hacker should do with her Facebook account. The hacker uses the live stream function on her laptop and proceeds to access Clarita’s friend list, prompting viewers to choose someone, who ends up being Ling Ern. The hacker reveals that he/she will prank Ling Ern and shows the process of hacking into Ling Ern’s phone and accessing her phone camera.

Ling Ern, on the other hand, is broadcasted on Clarita’s Facebook live stream without her knowledge. Ling Ern was puzzled as to why her phone camera is activated automatically and proceeds to do an app cleanup. The hacker then hacks into Ling Ern’s bank account and withdrew the amount of money specified by the live audience and sent a notification.

Ling Ern panics and calls the bank to clarify the matter without knowing that the hacker intercepts the phone call and pretends to be the bank staff. After prompting Ling Ern for all required personal details, the hacker successfully withdrew all of Ling Ern’s money, leaving her devastated…
