Journey Video(draft & thoughts)

Hit play for the draft of my video. : )

This is my final idea.

Sometimes I just feel depressed and it gets worse if I continue to stay indoor especially when no one else is around to talk to.

Feeling tired from stuffs in life, I would tend to stare at random things and it is kind of blank in my brain. Those sounds from all ordinary objects suddenly seem clearer and louder, yet repeated in a rather dull way. Everything seems so quiet, but my emotion could be changing rapidly and sometimes I become emotional on small unimportant things.

This is when I know that I need to talk a walk and relax, preferably somewhere different. A change of place, change of mood, I suppose. Therefore, this is a journey of escape from depression. Is it a dramatic one or a peaceful one? Will find out more in the final video.

About the video

Media: I chose to use still images instead of videos for several reasons. But mostly because I feel more comfortable with arranging images than videos. Videos seem more dynamic and vivid but I also love the pause of moment created by the still images. It leaves more for the viewers’ imagination.

Progress:ย So far I manage to arrange the images in the order I prefer and scale them into the appropriate sizes. Also I add some sounds into the beginning of the video as well as trying out some simple effects. Still, there are adjustment of the images, more sounds and probably ย captions(or voice-over?) to be added.

Thank you for watching! And I would appreciate it if you leave you comments!

e.g. Is it moving at too slow or too past pace?

The End!

  1. Hey Chenyue!

I love the photos, especially the ‘Day’ sequence hehe I love the ‘Night’ ones too but I just felt like the ones you take during the day are especially well-composed. I can’t wait for you to add in the sound effects cause I really loved the rain sounds and the footsteps on wet walkway sounds! Also all the door opening and closing sounds hahhah.

The change from day to night felt a little abrupt but if you’re going for that juxtaposition it should be alright ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m not so sure about the zooming in an out of the picture in the vid, I felt like the usual transition is better hehe.

I think there’s nothing wrong with using still images instead of video! If that’s what you want to do then of course it’s okay and if that conveys what you want the video to convey then go ahead ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I really liked how you captured the water droplets on the leaves of the trees, it was really quite stunning. I also felt the transition from day to night was a little sudden. Maybe you could have a few photos that show the sky darkening and progression of the day moving to dusk? But of course if it was intended to be that way then please ignore what I just said. Haha. I actually think you could do without a voiceover if you wanted, your photos speak quite well for themselves.

  4. Hello again Chenyue! ๐Ÿ˜€
This concept is a really cool one as well! The shots you take are always very nicely composed and they always appear very beautiful and quiet!
Currently for the video the scene transition is a little fast! Sometimes I had to pause the video or rewind to see the scenes properly (and the fast progression made it a little disorienting sometimes) Also, the sound of the rain in the first part ended a little abruptly! Maybe you could have it fade out instead?
Really excited to see how this turns out:)

  5. Hey! I love your shots and how well the sounds work with the images. My only issue (and this might be insignificant) is that the shower sound at the beginning sounded more like rain. Maybe it’s the deepness of the sound of water. I think it makes a difference. Otherwise, I love it and how you caught lovely little details in there like the hairs on the shower floor, the droplets on the trees and I particularly liked the wet feet sounds as you walked up the hill. At about 1.12 was my favourite part. All the circular drops on the transparent roof above. Pacing is alright at the moment, I think. Not too slow, not too rushed.

  6. Rather than fast/ slow, I was thinking maybe you can add the in between photos? like the turns because some parts it jumps from one image to another, the gap is a bit too big maybe? And the sounds part, some parts has the sound then some parts, the sound just cuts, I think the viewers will think why did she stop is it on purpose or is it she don’t have the sound to cover for some parts. Maybe you can put like singular, one person or quiet some effects at the isolation part, and when you come outdoors, you can start putting some moving tracks or noisier background sounds (with people talking/laughing).
