Just in case.

“PURELY COINCIDENTAL” ???

I’m not sure if anyone checked OSS enough to notice that I actually uploaded then redacted information on this project halfway through recess week and was all secretive about it; so secretive, the project was a mystery to even myself.

Honestly the project is pretty self explanatory so instead of explaining each composition one by one, I shall leave you guys with a picture of the final work that I put up for presentation along with a quick introduction of the characters, the three Jimmys:

So funny thing, in Block 123, on the 10th floor lives 3 somewhat similar looking uncles. They kinda have the same faces? The same heights? And the same penchant for eyewear? Wouldn’t it be extra creepy if they all had the same name too?

DUN DUN DUN DUN.

They do.

It’s literally in the post title that there’s three of them, three guys called Jimmy.

The odds of this happening is probably as high as winning the 4D 1st prize this weekend and there is definitely no way this could happen in real life so any resemblance to real persons, living or dead is most definitely 101% purely coincidental.

I digress.

Now, despite their similarities in name and facial structure, the three Jimmys led completely different lifestyles. And thus, I hereby present to you a compiled fact sheet on each Jimmy:

The government, RC and your residential MP would constantly harp about the kampung spirit of togetherness, but really, in these modern times, the one true common ground we have with our neighbors is the spirit of judging the heck out of each other. Whether you know it or not, your neighbor most certainly has some judge-y thoughts going through their mind whenever they see you and whether you admit it or not, you have some pretty judge-y thoughts on your neighbors of your own too.

Every Jimmy has their own opinion of every other Jimmy; another Jimmy that they see from behind their shades/glasses. Three Jimmy-s seen from the point of view of three Jimmys: that’s the project:

FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF JIMMY 1, JIMMY 2 IS A BLUR.

I’m really thankful for all the positive feedback with people saying how they enjoyed the illustrations, how they liked the interactivity and putting themselves in the shoes of the Jimmys to look at the other Jimmys and how relatable it was.

In hindsight, this project caught me at a really bad time I still can’t believe I didn’t catch the typos before printing and I’m still burning with shame over the whole screwup with the numbers as well, which I genuinely didn’t catch up until I was three whole minutes into my presentation.

It was great getting to draw the three of them though; I’ve had The Tale of Three Jimmys for a few years now. There’s actually an entirely completely different story written about these three guys, stuff like their childhood, their families, how they got there etc. but it was constantly shelved and collecting dust simply because it didn’t seem up to my writing standard. There was also this really strange and creepy feeling I felt every time I tried working on this simply because of how close the subjects were, so yeah… That was weird.

Getting to properly draw on paper for a 2D project was amazing as well! I’ve constantly been saying that I wanted to draw but for some reason I always ended up doing things completely digital so this was nice. It was a pity that due to time constraints, I couldn’t do everything traditionally.

There were a lot of directions this project could’ve went and a lot of things about these Jimmys that I still want to show an tell so hopefully someday, when I’m a better writer and artist, I can return to these characters and their stories and tell their tale better!

P.S. Apologies for the late update, I actually dozed off at my desk and it was already Thursday when I woke up. I’m also really jacked up on a variety of flu meds so I should probably edit this post when I wake up…
