(POV) Research

This post is a little overdue, so I apologise for that and for rambling a little *stares directly into the sun and laughs crazily*

For my research this time around, I don’t really have much as I have for previous projects because I’ve been working on (and trying to improve) a similar style throughout this semester and the end of the last one. I still have many of the same influences and art styles that I was inspired by!

Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide

A quick recap of one of the biggest inspirations in my mythical animal series! I really love the innovation that went into the animal designs and I’m actually quite interested in doing up my zine like this as well. (Like a mythical creature encyclopedia)

Another source of inspiration that I did have (but forgot to list) is an amazing artist called Aaron Horkey- I’m very taken by his creature design, precise linework and how it conveys shadow and light. My lines are messy and very concentrated, but Aaron Horkey manages to convey similar depictions of form and space in very neat, precise lines.

Aaron Horkey has a very exquisite way of drawing and I really love the way he does his lines!

This was done in ink! I like the way he left huge areas blank to imply light and form. He also uses a surprisingly minimal amount of line to convey his shapes.
