IDENTITY.

Time : IDENTITY

  1. ARCHIVAL : Time, determined by the archiving of a certain phase/ordeal/event in which is kept for memory or data. Both online and offline. In example, like a journal or a social media platform.
  2. GROWTH: A lifespan bounded by uncertainty. Growth in age and mental state. An upgrade of sorts towards a certain being. In which occurs in social media as well. In example, the number of likes and dislikes according to how they act on a certain social media platform. In which leads to the identity that they put up, be it a false one or not.

3. SCIENCE: Time determined by day and night. Another issue related to Science would be the Chaos Theory, Butterfly Effect. A definite input that will lead to and indefinite output overtime. From minor changes in which can occur in Social Media as well. I.e. FAME, SUCCESS, LOOKS. How your public identity is treated in the long run.

4. INTERNET: A timeless ‘world’ that everyone goes to for both personal and public ‘pleasure’ /activities to please themselves. A platform created by the creativity of many in which, Social Media is one of the platforms for everyone to express themselves. An identity created on how they want others to see, in which debates the idea of whether it is a false facade or not. The way one is treated by people on what they post online and how one acts. Identity, what is it?

Time // Work in Progress__

This is a record of my perception about time. Personally, I feel that time comes in different categories in which all of it can overlap within one another. Time is a temporary yet ongoing measurement to keep track of an ordeal. It can also be seen as the ideology of archiving certain data; like a journal or a diary.

  1. ARCHIVE – journal / diary
  2. GROWTH – puberty / phase
  3. SCIENCE – Parallel Universe / Chaos Theory
  4. INTERNET – Social Media / Identity / Views / Ever-changing

During the field trip to Singapore Art Museum, I was really drawn towards Heman Chong’s piece. First of all, it caught my attention due to its massive collection and display on how all of it was so organized and everything seemed to be in order, which gave me a hint of satisfaction. His installation, Calendars, were photos of empty spaces set in Singapore and this gave the photos a feeling of absence with some sort of uncanny atmosphere. Another interesting thing about the installation was that some were dated in 2020 and 2096, which was something that’s far ahead from even the near future. His concept regarding his installation was projected as an abstract and nothing of personal or non-existent, which questions viewers about the idea of time and perception on who uses it. Therefore, it is impossible to determine an identity on each and every of the photographs as to each has it’s own influences with the surroundings.

My take on his work would be time is something that goes on an infinite loop and that how one’s perspective regarding time depends oneself and on how or when time starts. However, one can have a perception of time for oneself but also manifest multiple perceptions on time. In example, one can view time for him separately from the time that he has to follow according to a generalized time. From his installation, I feel that he portrayed Singapore’s ideology on time through the population’s presence in spaces and how it influences the timings in Singapore. Singapore is densely populated yet you can still find empty spaces during specific timings. Therefore, time in Singapore can not necessarily be represented by the amount of people and it can also be measured by the number of human presence depending on the environment’s influences. This makes it hard to put an identity towards Singapore’s take on time as there’s no four seasons present in the country. Also, the presence of human at one space will never be consistent.

In conclusion, time is a flexible never-ending occurrence. Despite all the different ideologies on time, all of it will definitely overlap in one way or another. Time can be concluded by the identity it’s given due to its environment.

Arduino Lilypad, Pulse Sensor, LEDs, Mix Nylon, Thermochromatic Ink, Mix Polyester

Aegis was inspired by the idea of having an outer-protection. Inspired by the sub-culture, Seapunk, Aegis is made out to be simple yet extravagant. It is accompanied with a detachable skirt cum raincoat to protect the wearer. Aegis is also inspire by the ideology of being tripped into hallucination. It’s a multi-purpose dress that can be used for parties as well as a protection for the wearer during rainy days. The dress is attached with LED lights on the front that blinks according to the wearer’s heartbeat. It is mainly served for the rainy days after a night out. The lights will still ignite accordingly when the wearer is dancing as well as during useful situations in example during times whereby the wearer needs to cross the road at night. In which oncoming vehicles will be able to spot them from a distance. The skirt is also a wearable fashion to enhance the dress itself. In a hot atmosphere, some parts of the skirt will change it’s colour accordingly due to the Thermochromatic ink to imitate the concept of a blooming flower petal.
