My film will be a collection of images that i took during the days spent with my grandparents. I will be showcasing both the time-lapse moment and also single images.Travelling to Hainan to visit my ancestors, i love capturing the moments which i spent during the 1 week. In this film, i will be portraying the documentary process of images from the photo album, which eventually leads to the middle sequence… and finally the end( Back in Singapore routine).
During the documentary film, there will be voice over and also the surrounding atmosphere sound which brings the images to life. I was actually inspired by this film director- Wang Bing who filmed the three sisters- the filming actually took place in China.
Here’s the break-down sequence for the documentary film.(Planning diagram) Will be adding more images in-between the empty spots
The first cut is only 7 sec (images taken during my trip to Hainan), The second cut will be up very soon (Still adjusting the voice over now)

“The Journey to the beginning”
Flashback or transition, going back into time..Here’s to another concept. I decided to capture the moments and journey of my grandparents.
Being able to travel to their hometown -Hainan, i decided to film a documentary journey as it gives a lot of feel to it, and also, it immerse the viewer into the video through the sound surrounding it.
Inspired by the film that Professor Vladimir showed us during lesson, a documentary film by Wang Bing, i decided to follow his footstep and take this video as a challenge. (Piecing the images that i took into a documentary film showcase)

[The Ideation- Pt 1(Brainstorming)]
The most difficult journey…is the one that lies within ourselves. Words live everywhere, but not every place has been known to be safe.
In this concept, i tried to portray my life through the ups and downs i face daily, trying to escape fear.
[The images are arranged in sequence in which it flows from being realistic into something unpredictable.]

The 2nd planning i had was to capture the moments in which i am taking the public transport to school. I thought of capturing the moments of peoples facial expression to show the morning rush in their looks. Walking from one end to the other end of the cabin, i manage to capture the full view with the subject in it.

When i was first introduced to this Assignment, the first thought i had was (The journey daily). With the massive jam during the peak period and the endless quite nights, i thought of this composition,showing the process of my journey daily which i will be projecting it on a time-lapse image motion.Below are the selected cuts that i had for my initial planning ideation.

Design Concept
Emotions tells everything about my personality, my daily life and also the struggles faced throughout my constant changing atmosphere surrounding me. It is like an abstract piece of art which is ever changing,multiplying and also constantly moving in a flow just like a plain sketchbook being scribbled. The act of transferring the realistic image onto a canvas [a plain white surface which usually allows for unworldly expression] signifies an unyielding desire to break free from the intensity. Inspired by the ever changing movement and emotions daily, the flow of the photos portrayed are solely based on interpretations of physical characteristics and movements being captured first-hand. The paint acts as a conduit for emotion and expression in an abstract way that acts as a hyper realistic physical portrayal, creating a dialogue between the two polarities.

Set-up day:
Arrangement of photos plays an important role in telling the viewers the overall story without even telling them. It brings viewers into what you are thinking and what you are doing. I decided to go with the soft flow as it represents the emotions showcased in the pictures. This marks the end of Assignment 1.

Old Ideation:
There are 2 sets of photographs. The initial ones and the final process ones.
The initial take for this project was actually few photos of my pet dog and the last few with me in it with the assignment titled “Self Portrait with my companion” It was something that was very raw. “WHY DID I EVEN THOUGHT OF THIS IDEA … HAHAH. Instead of telling a story about myself, the story ended up introducing my pet dog instead. The setting of the shoot didn’t turn out well too although I experiment with different props but the area of the shoot remains the same.The background of the shoot remains constant with red as the background and pink carpet for the flooring so that my pet dog will stand out in the contrast. Here are the photos from the old idea I had.
Processing with new ideas: Emotions: An abstract piece of art
Taking this assignment ideation to the next step, I decided to go more in-dept about myself and this is the best opportunity to do so.
Brief Introduction:
To me, emotions tells everything about my personality, my daily life and also the struggles faced throughout my constant changing atmosphere surrounding me. It is like an abstract piece of art changing,multiplying and also constantly moving in a flow just like a plain sketchbook which is used to scribble. Emotions is what everybody shares in common. It is something we die, we lived, we faced in our constant life. Emotions is not a thing which I could see myself either. Capturing moments through the camera lens portrays sets of different emotions.
