Title: Reminisce

My narrative is about my character returning to an empty classroom of the school she used to attend, and reminiscing about her childhood memories spent in the school with her best friend. She is then called back to reality by her friend, but continues to hold her past close to her. I drew this on an A4 paper, and had some trouble with the small details, but I still tried my hardest to draw them in. I edited the photograph slightly to match the original colours.

This is the same classroom reference I used in my previous post, which I used for the setting of the whole narrative. I also used additional references for the panel in the last row.

I referred to images of children to practice drawing my characters when they were children, as I was not sure how to draw children.

These are the references I used for the flashback portion of the narrative. I created the poses based on these sketches done during class.

These are similar references to what I used in my previous post for the middle part of the narrative, where my character turns her head towards the voice of her best friend.

These are the references I used to draw her friend, and the sketch which I based her pose upon. The hand was drawn directly from my hand, so I didn’t use any online references.

Overall, I feel that I have learnt a lot through this assignment, from drawing forms to finding references that were helpful. I also worked on improving my weak areas, such as hands and faces, which is why I drew a close up of them in my panels, to help myself focus on just drawing them. Environment design was also something I tried to emphasise in my narrative as it was something I didn’t do often, especially during the drawing sessions in class. The drawing on location class hence reminded me of the importance of having a background. I also varied my line weight and pressure of my pencil when shading, to create more depth and make my forms more obvious. I still think that there are areas I could improve on for this assignment, but I am satisfied with the progress I had made so far.
