[Narrative Interaction] Final Project

Project Name
Longya Men Re-Identified

Project Description
Why was it called Longya Men? Who created that name? What does it have to do with us Singaporeans?

The main aim of this project is to use Longya Men as a metaphor to extend Singapore’s history further back in time before Raffles’ arrival in 1819. Through historical records and Longya Men’s associations with the presence of established polities on the island, users will be in a 3rd person point of view as they re-identify Longya Men with Dania and her grandmother.

Modern Singaporeans are often told the stories of history, which may be dull to them as it involves people who lives are far too different. Through active involvement in the interpretation of the past, users are able to accept the facts presented to them as they utilize analytical and interpretive skills to piece a portion of Singapore’s missing history.

Using a fragmented narrative method, an interactive website is used as a platform to tell this story. The sequencing of the story is jumbled up, challenging users to piece together the different components to make sense of it.

They are first introduced to modern Singapore using still photography and photo manipulation. They will then be transitioned into illustrations as they delve back into history by exploring objects found in the box. Voice-overs and ambience sound effects are implemented to further enhance their experience as they navigate through the different parts of the story.
