Sweet Surprise – Manipulated Found Object

Growing up is inevitable and so is the loss of that sweet childhood innocence. Instead of those little chocolate surprise you get in the centre of your lollipop, it’s replaced and contrasted with the idea of the dark and lonely struggles of growing up once the childhood part is over.

It can be interpreted in many ways, like how some of my classmates saw it like how sugar and lollipops make you happy as a child, vices such as alcohol and cigarettes take their place as we grow up. The underlying message is to show the contrast of what represents the truth of growing up that we do not see as a child, masked by an illusion of the freedom you get as an adult. But instead of that, you are greeted with realities of struggle.
