Nursery rhymes are something that we associate with playfulness, and childhood. Naivete and Innocence.
But, most nursery rhymes actually had dark origins, reflecting the darkness of the times they were
conceived in. As such, my aim was to take 2 nursery rhymes, Ring- Around- The- Rosie,
and Humpty Dumpty, giving it my own dark, morbid, interpretation, with each frame flowing
in a narrative style.
Humpty Dumpty Sat On A Wall
In this frame, i portrayed Humpty Dumpty as the king, with the
wall being his soldiers.
Humpty Dumpty Had A Great Fall
Humpty was betrayed, and pushed by the soldiers, symbolised by the handprint.
All The King’s Horses and All The King’s Men
A gathering of all Humpty’s horses and men.
Couldn’t Put Humpty Together Again
And they finish him off.
Ring Around The Rosie
The ring is a guillotine, wrapped around “Rosie”‘s head.
Pocket Full Of Posies
Behind the scenes, bribery is happening, and money changes hands.
A-tishoo! A-tishoo!
Under the cover of a sneeze, the deed is done.
And They All Fall Down
Heads roll.
