Time Zone Conversion

By: Randall Packer |

If you ever decide to plan an online symposium, you will discover that time zones become the bane of your existence! Whereas geographical distances can be easily collapsed in the third space, time is of another order.

That said, I would like to give everyone some help in determining the time difference between wherever you are and Singapore in order to attend the Art of the Networked Practice | Online Symposium. If calculating from GMT or UTC helps, Singapore is + 8 hours. But I think the following chart of popular time zones makes it easier:

  • USA East Coast (EDT): subtract 12 hours
  • UK (BST): subtract 7 hours
  • Central Europe (CEST): subtract 6 hours
  • Sydney/Melbourne, Australia (AEDT): add 3 hours

Then you can easily do the math (+ or – a few hours if you are not in one of these zones). So this means that if you are planning to attend our first panel session on Wednesday, April 1, 9:00 am Singapore Time, these are the following conversions (no April Fools joke here!):

  • USA East Coast (EDT): 9pm, Tuesday, March 31
  • UK (BST): 2:00 am, Wednesday, April 1
  • Central Europe (CEST): 3:00 am, Wednesday, April 1
  • Sydney/Melbourne, Australia (AEDT): 12:00 pm, Wednesday, April 1

You also have the option of using a Time Zone Converter to determine the difference from your location.

Now you can visit our Program @ Glance page and begin making the calculations.

We have planned the sessions so that the morning accommodates the Americas, the afternoon Europe and Africa, and of course Asia can tune in for the entire symposium.

Welcome to event planning in the telematic age!

Best,

Randall
