3D FINAL: Diffusion of light, light-play, shadow-play

Shadow of our lampshade
Shadow of our lampshade

We started off by combining Chris’s SEM of a diamond and my SEM of a mushroom.

The wire mesh of the structure corresponds to my SEM whereas the metallic copper feel of the structure corresponds to Chris’s SEM.

The theme of our lampshade is a galaxy-like lampshade that would cast a shadow that makes it seem as if you are in space.

Materials that we used was copper wires, wire-mesh(different sizes), wooden base, copper-painted paper, small crystal-like gems, marbles.

Soldering the wires together

We started by soldering the wires together to create the basic shape in which the sides and slanted to one side.

Putting the wire mesh in place

We then added the mesh: Two different type of mesh(different sized holes). This is to create the two differing opacity of the lampshade such that the amount of light shining out will be diverse.

We then added in some gems so that the light is able to disperse outwards to create a different pattern.

We tried out the light and I absolutely love how the shadow turned out to really give the galaxy-feel and also it engulfs the whole room which is bonus!
