IDEA (Assigned Theme: Obsession)

We want to show people’s obsession with winning when there is an incentive to win (in this case, the money). However, our machine is wired in a way such that it isn’t easy to win, so this would spur people to play continuously, to emphasise on the part of “obsession”.

MOTIVATION

We wanted to make a physical object because it provides tactile feedback and we felt that it would be more satisfying as opposed to an on-screen project.

LAYOUT OF OUR MACHINE

Coin slot:  detect the coins that the participants insert
2 horizontal slits: loser and winner notes release spot
Coin box: collect point of all the coins (front of the box will be secured by a transparent flap- participant will be able to see the amount of gathered winnings)

WINNER & LOSER NOTES

These notes act as an amplifier to the effects of winning and losing because on top of just losing your money, the messages is the concrete proof that they did not win.

Our messages are meant to jokingly roast the user. On top of interaction with the machine, it also encourages interaction with other user. It acts as a good conversation starter and adds to the overall user experience. Participants can share their obsession with the machine. We choose to use acrylic as the material so they can bring the keychain souvenir home.
