DN1011 – ASSIGNMENT 1 – AXONOMETRIC PROJECTION

In this project, or I deemed as a childhood reminiscence project, we were instructed to pick at least 15 pieces of lego blocks to build a structure and planning out an instructional manual for the structure.

This is the plane model that I have built out with a total of 16 pieces. From the picture that you have see from below, it is the exploded view of material list and also the isometric view of the plane.

The challenges that I faced with this assignment lies in two types – hardware and software. For hardware, I have to measure half of the grid to mark the height of certain lego blocks as they are only half the size of an unit to ensure accuracy.

Secondly, it was a challenge to make use of Adobe Illustrator (AI) to trace out the shape of each block but I have managed to do it after many tries.

The exciting part lies in digitally duplicating the buttons via AI. I enjoyed doing the process as I felt that it was therapeutic after spending long hours trying to draw the objects out and coloring them.

Overall this is a very interesting project and I am looking forward to work more on Isometric drawings as I see a rationale on how it makes life easier for instructional manual as we can see it with a clear view.

Attached below is the PDF document for the Instructional Manual, enjoy your building of the plane!

  1. Raw Drawings

    – Drawings were not badly drawn. The cylinder however could have been better.

    – The drawings need not have to be digitally re-drawn in Illustrator – that was not the intent.

    Manual/Presentation

    – The Alphabetical labeling of the pieces are the start of the sheet, and not quite useful, as it would not tend to refer to another sheet for the alphabets that are stated on the step-by-step, not unless you were really stuck

    – The highlight of where to place the pieces was a good means of communication.

    – The presentation of the step-by-step is not a pure isometric view, there is a perspective to it, which should no be the case.

    General

    – Overall a good effort, however more thought needs to be given to the overall presentation (fonts/texts used etc)
