4D Alter Ego | Final Work

With them blindspots as mentioned in the previous post, I’ve chosen to embrace my concept that could accommodate by lack of film expertise. Inspired by a quote below:

so-true

Some of the sweetest things in any dialogues include “Have you eaten?” Food plays a super huge part in most Singaporeans’ life. Within one minute, I had to capture how frustrating it must be for two person to decide on the meal. With the previous shortlisted characters. Benjamin, my classmate was casted alongside with Jacelyn, who was a more quiet but unwilling to commit to suggestions that Benji gave.

In terms of execution, I wanted to transcend this concept through time and the best way after much research on the interweb, is to bring back the element of film via VHS effects.

The whole Vaporwave movement was also the driving force of my project. To articulate the dragging of time, despite the 1 minute brief.

After playing around with the look and feel of this aesthetic, I’ve tried to mix and match and played around to get this intro.

Presenting My final video –

4D Alter Ego | Inspiration

One semester after entering ADM, I realised that understanding your strength and blindspots could be an asset. However, one may avoid their blindspots at all costs or choose to counter them.

With that as my 2k17 resolution, 4D film was seriously not my strong suit. I could never capture frames properly and my cinematography skills are SUPER SHAKY.

I tend to draw my inspirations from things that I loved and some initial ideas (that unfortunately didn’t make into the cut) includes:

For Good, a musical/dialogue and appreciation between two friends.

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, the overall aesthetics, man-made felt set, and surprisingly, their dialogues are epicly written into catchy songs

4D Alter Ego Task 1

First lesson first assignment #blessed #jk #nochill.
It definitely takes time getting some used to!

I’ve listed my initial brainstorm of each characters. I can’t help but notice how female oriented my listed characters are. However, each and every one of them spoke close to my heart and I find myself relating to these characters often.

The personal list was much easier, I could scroll through my instagram feed, being a millennial and all to short list some of my closer friends into the mix of this task.

After shortlisting, i’ve profiled all three characters and can’t help but notice the starking similarities between my friend Jacelyn and “Lin Zhen Xing”.

I’ll share in the next post some of the exploration I have in mind regarding themes and story flow for assignment 1!

Hello My Name Is

First week of sem 2 and Joy initiated the class with a simple hands on activity to introduce ourselves.

I have created three different “clarrot”. One that’s red and supposedly traditional chinese inspired. However my lack of skill in drawing satki (hokkien word, translation = fierce) dragon still haunts me.

The second one features a floppy disk. Essentially what all the 95 kids would use to save our beautiful power points filled with rainbow coloured WordArt. Someone ought to bring it back. Rather than my personality, it pays homage to my favourite inspiration source, old school technology.

Last one does feature my personality a little? I am a firm believer of embracing your mistake. Very much living by “Wabi Sabi”, embracing the flaws that are unique and working around it. The past tape recorders allowed us to live in the moment, re recording what is precious to us. Do away with each past, but replacing with an even better memory.
