FINAL STORYTELLING ANIMATIC PROJECT- PINO

PINO

This is a story of a puppet boy who make a journey to become a real boy. He is, however, actually a real boy from the start.

Meaning of the title

Pino, from the name of the story I am inspired by, “Pinocchio”. It also means Pine in Italian. Pine, in many cultures, throughout history, symbolise the pineal gland, or the third eye and also represent enlightenment. Hence, hinting the fact that the boy realises that he is a real human being by the end of his journey.

Motivation and Challenge

The puppet boy wants to be a real boy and desperately find a solution. He found one and has to make a long journey to the place where he can find the treasure that will turn him into a real boy.

Transformation

The change in the appearance of the boy by the audience, and the change in the boy’s perspective.

Empathy

Like the character, there are instances in our lives when we do not see ourselves as who we really are. So, I want to show the need for us to be willing to change, and also the need for us to take a journey in order to change our mindsets.

Style

I want this animatic to have a gentle flow, like the boy, who is a quiet character.

Initially, I wanted it to look more like a fully rendered animated film, done using digital painting techniques. But I am quite happy with how this animatic come out.

Conclusion

I hope to be able to find my own style of illustration. ( Like Esther one, hers is so good!)

I also hope that I can make my stories a bit more light-hearted as well so that there will be more variation in terms of emotions.

And for the animatic itself, maybe I should have just use one song throughout because some parts sound quite abrupt.

P.S I uploaded the video again as I realised that there are some issues with it when I export it out of Premiere Pro.
