Generation of Ideas
Naomi’s pleasant scent is her Japanese-brand shampoo, while her unpleasant one is her eczema cream. My pleasant scent is the Po Chai pills, while my unpleasant one is wine.
I realised that both my scents are natural, while Naomi’s scents are both artificial. While our scents may be of different types, like how man-made and natural objects always integrate together in real life, I wish to convey that aspect also.
For our sketches of our design, we also draw inspirations from my plane model:
Here are the some of sketches of our initial idea generation process:
Making of products
We decided to make 2, so that we still have something to present if one of them fail. ( Especially when we don’t have time to remake)
We decided on the materials and here are some of them:
Initially we tried to use a normal light brown belt, but it does not match well with the other materials, so we made a transparent belt instead.
And here is me trying out the belt:
We also changed the SO to a metal copper piece as it matches better with the colour scheme.
For our spectacle design, we decided to use a coiled aluminium foil as the SO as it has a different shape from the SD and D, and it is also shiny as compared to the other elements, hence giving the design a special touch.
For the show, I decided to wear white and black to match our colour scheme, and a white singlet so that the belt will stand out more.
After critique
Our Presbyopia spectacles:
I wanted the black parts to represent the integration of scents, or the integration of the natural and the artificial. However, after the critique, I realised that the black parts are unnecessary and should be removed; the integration can be shown through the use of complementary colours. Cheryl also told us that we should remove the circular lens as well. She also advised us to add in a scent element by using scented satin-like gold ribbons.
We adjusted the spectacles and smeared Naomi’s cream on the satin ribbon to create scent.
We also decided to change the belt accessory into a head accessory as it looks more appealing.Below are our final products:

Reflections
Naomi and I found it hard to represent both our scents in our products. However, we manage to think of integrating both of our scents and create harmony between all the scents; through the use of materials, as well as colour. Overall, this project is a pleasant one.
I honestly think ” Ah Ma” Fashionista can be quite a niche HIT! 🙂 Do include images of the actual ” catwalk model” adorning the 2 accesories once they have been revised… ThanX
Okay I will, thank you!
