EGO – PROCESS I

When this new EGO last assignment was given to us, I kept thinking about what to do with the 12 compositions that had to be submitted.

Me — Better Me — Ideal Me — Me in 5 Years, these questions here were not easy to answer for many of us. But i’m glad that this project did not only helped us better know one another, it also helped me understand myself better and discover myself during the thought process.

It definitely took my quite some time to think or meditate(haha) about myself. However, I managed to come out with my first super rough draft on the second lesson for consultation. Above image was the draft.

01_CHING_C 10_CHING_CThe idea of using owls to symbolize me came from the metaphor of calling someone a ‘night owl’ which I quickly relate to with this particular animal. I took reference at my previous drawings like the above 2 images. I thought that the owl looked too fierce for the cuter style that I was planning to work on. Hence, I went back to research on owls and worms, to do a more detailed animal study on them. I have also decided to work on ‘Pen and Ink’ method for my compositions, inspired by my seahorse drawing above. I thought pen and ink works would look bolder and more confident from the line works.

About colours, my initial plan was to use an over all warm tones. Prof suggested that I should use water colours. Hence I was wondering how I could work with adding the ‘Soft touch’ of water colour paint on the bold pen and ink drawings. Further questions like what colour to use and whether using more or less colours could work better or will all the colours on the 12 compositions will compliment each other when placed together.
There was still much to be developed on improving the idea of the drawings and colours to use.
Below are some of my very messy scrabbles of my thought process on paper:
