2D – Project 3 EGO x RESEARCH

For project 3, also known as the final project for Foundation 2D (yaaas) we are suppose to play with color harmonies and schemes.

I did not really have a particular theme in mind the moment I first heard about this project but after a long consideration and the time taken to execute the final project, I decided to do digital manipulation as it is the quickest to execute given the amount of time I had (to top it off with so many other assignments to do).

At first I started by researching on the various colour schemes available at color.adobe.com where they generate the colour based on the palettes you choose. But I thought it wasn’t what I wanted so I decided to reference some artist until I stumble upon this astounding artist called Akiya Kageichi.

Not much is known about him online but his works is love at first sight. The way he chose his colours really mirrors myself and I knew I would use his colour schemes for my works.

Here are a few sample of his works that I referenced the colour palettes from.

I also see his other works below to see how he used just a few colours to display such melancholy x solemn feels.

I then generated the colour palettes to use for photoshop and start curating my artpieces.

Chose the sphynx cat to represent myself as technically I am the oldest among the classmate (did not wanna use my age card but..) with age comes experience and knowledge so why not!

Went for ink based style of artworks and manipulating it to suit my emotions and settings that I work.

There’s so many things that I could think of about the setting and situation, and me being so indecisive went on to proceed with the ones that feels closer to my heart as so.

2D – Project 2 Drafts and Final Design

What I’ve done so far:

I picked version 3.1 for the quote “Free your Mind” after several revisions and feedbacks from friends @val, @chris and prof @mimi :). I also used this as the final design for the tote bag as I love cats, and it could sell well if it was an actual design targeted to cat lovers and partly because the cat symbolizes the paradox of dejavu in the Matrix world..

Other than that, I have also developed the other three designs through stages.

I decided on version 3.1 for the quote “I see dead people”.

Not much development on this quote as I’ve settled on version 2.

Version 4 of this quote really speaks for the movie as there were alot of symbolism that is depicted on the movie like cicadas, the girl’s hair and the fishes represent the first leap that she did after discovering her power.

So what did we do in class for our silk screen printing?

Dark room to make our silkscreen by using emulsion and exposure.

Test print 1.0 on paper done! Look at em details. So lovely. 🙂

2D – Project 2 Researcherisation

The Matrix, Morpheus on requesting Neo to free his mind. One of my favourite all time movie since young, partly because this is the first movie I watched at the theaters alone just because I really wanted to understand the whole matrix concept and its ideologies. Great movie to watch if love to screw your own mind haha.

The Sixth Sense where Cole told Malcolm his dark secret.

V for Vendetta, where V’s talking to Evey about the gunpowder treason.

Batman – the Dark Knight, love Michael Caine portrayal of Alfred here in Christopher Nolan’s version of Batman. The script is deep and very insightful to the overall Gotham Theme.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

I’m not too sure this considered as a quote as it’s the narrator who narrates the taglines, but I guess it is still a quote from a movie? 🙂 Anyway love time travelling movies and how they explore the pseudoscience on time leaping and the effects on how the world could change by just a slight variation. Known as the Butterfly effect.
