First off – I would have to say that Chinoiserie room is extremely pretty. Look at the colors! It’s so very dainty and clean, with a dash off – for lack of better word – oriental touch. It reminds one of a life-sized miniature doll-house (now that’s a funny phrase). We know the wallpapers and other elements in the room are merely Chinoiserie and not genuine representative Chinese materials, but considering how the room had already declared itself that’s forgivable.
If the room we’re discussing is something of a boutique hotel room, I’m thinking of going with a Chinoiserie theme as well, but one centered around blue and white porcelain.
Chinoiserie bedsheets! BOOM:
Additional matching quilts if needed:
The wallpaper could have a base of white with blue decals, mirroring the white-base-blue-designs of the actual porcelains! Motifs could either be slightly modern, Chinese-esque patterns as below:
or alternatively one that is more traditional in decal and simpler:
Look at the backing of the couch! Not the wallpaper, the wallpaper seems a tad bit too complicated, but the backing of the couch-
Cabinets, furnitures etc are going to be dark wood. Dark wood dressers to balance out the white and blue of the rest of the room, complete with carved Chinese motifs along the corners or on the legs. Light wood would stand out too much and be too distracting in a room of this color – the darker materials for furniture will ground the room nicely.
And the handles will be replaced with Chinese-themed handles, like this:
Chairs! We all need chairs. How about chairs that look like this:
The attached washroom could have a darker wallpaper like the one below to contrast it with the main bedroom:
White window frames are okay, maybe with more Chinese-based window panes instead:
And then, for decorations:
Porcelain-esque lampstands!
We could also decorate the rest of the place with fake (or not) blue and white porcelain plates! Just not too many, or it’ll look too weird and cluttered-
Isn’t she pretty~
We could also get some of these bigger pots, which can act as storage but also fill up empty space (e.g. under dressers and tables) nicely 🙂
(I’m just not digging the floor tiles. We’re probably not going with any floor tiles)
Depending on size of room we could get Blue and white paintings of ancient Chinese lives, like the one on the right of the picture:
Bearing in mind though that they will probably work if and only if the walls are plain – if the walls are wallpapered it’s going to be extremely cluttered.
So there we have it – the Chinoiserie room that I’m imagining about. It’s really milking the whole Chinoiserie shtick dry but it’s loads of fun to think about, even if it’s not gonna happen in real life ^_^
