Progress of Gesture Drawing
Night Drawing
Tourism in Singapore
For the first sketch, my initial idea was to draw scenery situated near Bayfront which includes the Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay and the ArtScience Museum.
For the second sketch, my idea developed into a vast aspect of tourism in Singapore. The bus signifies public transport, showing that it is readily accessible and is able to bring us to almost everywhere in Singapore. In addition to the tourist attraction in the first sketch, other sceneries such as Universal Studios were included as well.
Final Piece
For the Final drawing, it is a more comprehensive idea from the second sketch. More tourist attractions such as Botanic Gardens were added in. The public transport was changed from bus to MRT. Most importantly, the tourist attractions were situated on a sardine can – displaying the idiom packed like sardines.
Tourism is definitely an important economic source for Singapore. It has affected me both positively and negatively. One positive aspect would be the advancement in transportation – offering greater convenience and flexibility traveling around. However, with the bustling of tourists in the country, it seems that Singapore is overcrowding in these attractions which is represented by the sardine can.
Week 6 Homework Gesture Sketches
Sketches of gestures noticed in the canteen
For the first two photos of the sketches, I have used a slightly different form of gesture drawing after doing some research online. However, it appears that the method was not too suitable for me after all. Hence for the last sketch, I have resumed my original way of sketching gesture drawings.

Title: “For Whom, For What Are You Dying?”
This poster was one of the few pieces that left a deep impression on me. It may appear simple, yet it is very expressive in various ways. E.g. the helmet and rest in peace wood cross represent death of the soldiers in the Vietnam War. The physical gesture of the character(soldier) implies that he is in great pain and sadness. He appears to be grieving over the death of his fellow mates.

Experiment Sketch 2
Final Piece
The three items drawn were: sail, compass and map. They represent home as:
The sail is the iconic symbol in my house, which was given to us by my grandmother who passed away when i was at a young age. This becomes especially sentimental to me as it is one of the rare items she has left for us.
Compass and map show my desire to go home after each trip/outing.
One Perspective & Landscape Drawing
1st Homework – Hawker Centre
Went to a nearby hawker centre in Jurong. What I enjoyed most was the the food fragrance, which is represented at the centre of the drawing using the gentle light waves. On the other hand, the noise there made me feel uncomfortable. It is represented by the dark toned clutters in the drawing.
