Assignment 3: Research

APPLIED ILLUSTRATION

Apart from the examples Lisa showed in class, I conducted my own research for illustration made specifically for children, as I had decided that my project was going to be a sculpture trail kit for children.

Faces by Pau Morgan

I like how the organic, curved forms and lines work really well with the bright and flat colours, which helps to give the illustration a friendly and approachable look.

The colours in this illustration are also really bright and fun. Other than that, I really like the use of texture in his work which gives it a slightly sketchy look but since the line weights are quite consistent, the overall illustration is still quite clean.

This illustration plays around with simple, clean shapes and bright colours, which incorporates well into different forms of packaging and collaterals.

USER PERSONA

After getting some inspiration from my research, I created a positive and negative user persona for my designs. You can view it as a pdf here.

MOODBOARD

I also created a moodboard for my collaterals, focusing on primary colours and fun shapes and textures that would be approachable and appealing to children. You can view it as a pdf here.

MIND MAP

Lastly, I created a mind map to think about the various components of the project and the collaterals I wanted to create. I decided to go with the bag, activity book, badges and cap.
