1. Recap

2. On-site Feedback

2.1. Methodology and Content

During the feedback session, Prof. Danne clarified that her suggestion about targeting foreign tourist in the Mekong doesn’t mean to disregard the importance of the locals. She emphasised that in fact, the locals may have even more power to make changes.

Prof. Nanci pointed out that although one of the keywords was ‘engagement’ (i.e. “How to engage the audience’s thoughts?”) what I shown during the interview didn’t answer to the question, and suggested that either the content or the keywords be changed.

Candice agreed that putting a dark ending in Mekong, 2100 was an impressive way to call for attention. However that attention then come to a dead end since there is nothing to call for an actionable action, and suggested that there be one.

2.2. Visual

Prof. Cindy and Prof. Michael agreed about that I should make the publication proportionally bigger, instead of squeezing so much imagery and ideas into a format that is as narrow as A5 panoramic. Prof. Cindy also said that she didn’t feel the cover designs appealing, as opposed to the illustrations inside

Following the feedback of making the book bigger, Prof. Nanci said I could go for the extreme and turn the compact book series into one single coffee table book.

3.1. Methodology and Content

I agree with Prof. Danne’s feedback. It can be seen that although everyone can read the book, my organic, sketchy watercolor style are not appealing enough to everyone. I will search for a way to bend the style into a more contemporary and vibrant look, and also open a possibility that the book can be translated into Vietnamese. Prof. Nanci’s feedback can also be easily respond by changing the keyword into ‘visual appealing’ instead, which agrees with my solution for Prof. Danne’s question as well.

Besides, I totally agree with what Candice noticed. A loop of questions will be intergrated into the series using captions, to encourage action and create a closed connection between the first and last book.

3.2. Visual

Following Prof. Cindy and Prof. Michael’s suggestion, the canvas size for the series will be enlarged from 420mm × 148mm to 22in × 9in (558mm × 228mm).  However, what Prof. Nanci suggested is difficult to implemented, as it will defeat the basic audience of the project (foreigner tourists) and the concept (changes of the river and the contruction of dams over the years being shown on the covers and the spines), which I cannot afford the time to adapt to.
