Violence & Beauty | 暴力与美感

Cai Guo-Qiang, Illusion II, (2006)

IMG_0051

Cai Guo-Qiang’s ephemeral spectacle beholds its viewers while stirring cognitive dissonance between violence and beauty. This representation of duality is especially saturated on the internet. Having this beautiful work of art installed in Singapore Art Musuem 8Q is our pleasure. As intense as it it, a wave of melancholia swathed over, in remembrance of the Anhalter station that used to deport 50,000 of the 17,000 Jews to concentration camps during World War II.

      • I agree that Cai Guo-Qiang’s explosive work stirs a remarkable interplay between violence and beauty. That’s an excellent way of putting it. For the benefit of our bridge project, I am wondering if you can find a better visual representation of the work: it’s a little hard to read the display of fireworks. I am curious to know more about how it is installed. Obviously the work was created elsewhere and then there are artifacts being exhibited?

        • This exhibit installs dual screening in a black cube and a bench for passive viewing. I am afraid that is the only available element available for capture in this showcase. In view of our bridge project, perhaps then I could include other choice of subject?

  1. Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this site.
It’s simple, yeet effective. A lot of times it’s very difficult to get thast “perfect balance” betwesen user friendliness and visual appeal.
I must say you’ve done a superb job with this. In addition, the blog
loads super quick for me on Chrome. Superb Blog!
