Darkroom Matters

1. Always use the print tongs in the right trays. Otherwise the tongues
might contaminate the developer. The tongs must stay with their
assigned chemical!
2. Do not throw the fixer and stop—bath away after use! This is expensive and wasteful. They should be returned to its proper container. The
only chemical that gets discarded is the diluted developer, after its
use.
3. If you poured too much non—diluted developer into the measuring
cylinder, you may pour it back rather than pouring it into the sink.
4. Do not open and close the film drying cabinet door while the fan is
running, which sucks in dust that settles in the wet film. Turn off the
fan before you open the door. Don’t open and close the door
unnecessarily.
5. Do not use the beakers in the film development area without regard to
the chemical names on the respective beakers…developer only in the
developer beaker, fixer only in the fixer beaker for example…
6. Rinse all used items properly
7. Be careful with the darkroom door – knock before turning…
8. Use the filters instead of the white light setting on the enlargers when
printing.
9. Make sure the light is only turned on when necessary and do not open the film holder while the light is on.
10. Keep any liquids away from the dry area and clean up after you.
Treat everything as it was your own equipment.
