Art is a form of expression, an outlet for artists to express their thoughts and emotions. Art can also be a creative idea or concept, one that creates meaning. Lastly, quoting from Yoko Ono, Art is a way of survival.

Does Colonialism still exist today?

After some research, I think that yes, colonialism still do exist. Colonialism is “the policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country.” An example of colonialism is the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians over reclamation of land. The Palestinians are constantly fighting for their rights to get back their land which was taken away and given to the Israelis during the building of the Jewish state. Palestinian men and women are put in prisons, put to labour and mistreated by the Israeli military forces. invade almost daily, injuring, kidnapping and sometimes killing them. Feel free to read more on the history of Colonialism of Palestine.

Colonialism also exists for 16 territories who are currently still under the tutelage of former colonial powers such as the UK, USA and France. These territories have yet been able to attain full measure of self-government and are being labeled by the United Nations as “non-self-governing territories (NSGTs)”. Here is an interesting article addressing colonialism in the 21st century: http://unu.edu/publications/articles/residual-colonialism-in-the-21st-century.html.
