Character Development

Scenario:

Nicole learns the news of the passing of an old friend, whom she always thought to have something going on with but the timing was never right. But she is now in a relationship and she is unsure of how to cope with the grief with her fiancé around. The scene starts while on their way to the funeral and covers how Nicole struggles to hide the grief because of guilt and possibly, regrets.

Character:

Nicole, mid 20s, is someone who seeks to find balance and stability. She has always stayed on the safer side of things, and responsible is the word to describe her. In her younger days, Nicole was all about living her life to the fullest and being true to herself. But when she almost caused her friend to end up in jail, she changed and turned mild.

Guys have come and gone in her life until she met David. There is some chemistry shared between them and she finds comfort in his presence. So after having dated for 2 years, David proposed during a simple dinner cooked at his place and she accepted with not so much of excitement and joy, but relief that her life will be drifting on calm waters. But with the nearing of the wedding and the news, she starts to falter and starts having cold feet about being bounded to a stable but dull marriage.

Favourite Actor

Javier Bardem

Javier Bardem

Javier Bardem is a Spanish actor that more recently, has come to make a presence in Hollywood films. I enjoy watching his performances because he has great versatility and his acting is very raw yet contained. My favourite performance of his was in Biutiful. It was a very hard film especially for an actor to take on because of the emotional weight the character holds.

He doesn’t delve much into acting technicalities but rather, he views acting from an interesting point of view. To him, his role as an actor is like being a lawyer, you have to understand and defend the character no matter the circumstances. For instance, he played a violent character in No Country for Old Men but in real life, he dislikes violence and guns. Yet he portrayed the character so well, he won Golden Globes for Best Performance.
