Assignment 1 (Work in Progress)

The focus of my project was on books, which are some of the most important things in my life as they have shaped the person that I am and how I see the world.

The initial take I had on this project was to show how books reflect my life and emotions on a daily basis. Thus, I decided to select a few specific books to show in the pictures.

I selected this work based on my tendency to collect knick-knacks and other paraphernalia- but I had incorporated too many visual elements into the picture which made focusing very difficult.

I was trying to capture the sense of isolation and loneliness that I feel sometimes in school in terms of the composition and colour scheme (I'm not usually very good at socialising and such so it takes me a great deal of effort to put myself out there- and it makes me feel like a freak who can't talk to people properly sometimes)

I have a face that is really expressive (People always point out my expressions and go 'HAHA OMGOSH LEA YOUR FACE'. So I was trying to capture the idea of being very transparent in terms of my emotions without actually showing my face (But this picture turned out more like a pensive Tumblr girl picture than anything else. Also I went a little crazy with the saturation.)

Books have always been my go-to before I sleep (I used to read under the covers after turning out the lights- which is why I'm halfway to being blind now) I tried to play with the composition where the word 'Lullabies' leads to my sleeping face (thus showing how books 'lead' me to sleep)

This was meant to show how lonely I sometimes was and how I wanted 'more than all of this'- and after consultation this lead me to link this work with my later improvements.

After consultation, I decided that I would like to focus on why books are so interesting to me instead of them being a reflection of the person I am.
