Project 2 Brief

Brief

Embark on an exploration around a local neighbourhood! Find out what makes the neighbourhood unique and what are some of the interesting features in the area.

The project is broken down and assessed in two parts:

Part I (2 Weeks): Research, sketches, collection of data. Presenting found data in a visually engaging manner.

Part II: Creation of Zine

Aim

To develop one’s investigative research skills and present information in a visually engaging manner. To introduce inspiration and serendipity into creative development.

To explore experimental formats and understand alternative layouts and grid formats. To learn more about binding methods and ways of putting together a self-made digital publication.

Suggestions

A “zine” is a self-published, non-commercial, independent publication, a DIY magazine-like thing. Because you do it yourself it can be pretty much anything you want it to be, favorite bands, personal stories, subcultures, or collections (that’s the joy of zines!). Please research on zine production and ideas to help you with some of the practicalities of how to make a zine as well as about putting paper and ink (or other materials) together.

Specifications

The zine should be A5 size with a maximum of 8 pages and completed digitally. There is no limitation on the medium or color used on the making of your crafts. Scan or photograph all crafts to digitise and use them in your layouts. Illustrations or photo-imaging may be created digitally. Collate all your materials and create a layout in InDesign software. Print and bind your finished artwork (F.A.).

Make sure to complete the brainstorming in its entirety with a physical paper mockup before beginning the visual portion of the project.

Deliverables

Part II (Zine): A5 size with a maximum of 8 pages and completed digitally.
