4D ASSIGNMENT 2: SOUND AND IMAGE

4D ASSIGNMENT 2: SOUND AND IMAGE

STORY 1: CYNICAL TORTURE

genre – thriller

STORYLINE:

Told from the point of view of the person being tortured. We can hear his heartbeat increasing gradual in the story as well as his heavy breathing throughout. The scene begins with the torturer walking from the left to the right of the room.  When he reaches the other side, he begins to sharpen his knife and tunes the radio to his favourite song “Stuck in the Middle With You”. As he walks over to his victim, the song gets louder and seems to “come out” of the radio and plays in the foreground. He reaches the victim and chops his neck and we hear him choking and bleeding to death.

The heartbeat idea to increase tension is inspired by the torture scene in “Law Abiding Citizen” and the radio music to add to the cynical nature of the torture is referenced from the torture scene from “Reservoir Dogs”.

STORY 2: CIVILIAN IN WAR

genre – war

STORYLINE:

In the midst of a war happening, a civilian is carrying his baby and struggling through a muddy path. It is raining heavily and the thunder is rolling. A grenade is throw in his direction and explodes within his vicinity. His hearing becomes affected and he desperately tries to flee with his baby while being wounded. However, the enemies’ plane flies by and drops a nuclear bomb into his area. It explodes and both of them dies.

I drew my inspiration from Korean movie war scenes and how to incorporate civilians into a war scene from the suicide bomb scene of “The Pacific”. The rainy atmosphere and the high frequency impact from the explosion is drawn from the war scenes of “Saving Private Ryan”.
