Paper Preparations : IMPRINTS
Before I began my work/drawings on my composition paper, I thought that I should create some textures on it to bring more meaning to my work. Hence since my name Car, I thought it would be a good idea to run all 4 compositions under the each wheel of the an actual car. The gravel/ground/asphalt/bitumen textures on the road would be imprinted on my papers when being rolled over, giving it a pop-up 3D rough texture.
I wash over each composition either with water or brown paint mixtures so that it will be damp enough to transfer the carvings/imprints of the car wheel itself onto the paper.
Experimenting with my brown paint mixture in the image shown below:
Brown Paint Mixture in the Making!
As you can see above, I realized that different brown paints gives me different results. The brown watercolour pigment from Van Gogh’s gave me more natural result compared to Pentel’s. My final ingredients for my brown mixture was :
1. Van Gogh’s brown and grey pigment
2. Tea leaves to mimic dirt
3. Real dirt from the ground. ( As I spilled My mixture on the road.. and the over all mixture turn out better and more natural-looking haha. Happy accidents they say?)
4. Water
Below are the achieved after results from using water and brown mixture:
The rough textures are the imprint of the road and the black coloured marking on the paper are the imprint of the car wheel. The damp paper idea succeeded in picking up the wheel print as I failed once before due to not dampening it.
Love the brown mixture effect!

Next, I also tried mono printing on the wheel. The outcome was pretty awesome!

Overall Experimentations:
Below were the composition I have selected to use for my 4 compositions:
I guess I am pretty weird. But I had fun getting my hands all dirty!
