Journal Journey – Line Process II

JOURNEY II ( Click on Images to See Them in Detail)

Working with monoprints became a norm throughout the entire assignment 1’s journey. My classmates and I were doing monoprints during class, after class and even at home! Despite doing long hours of monoprinting, I have learned to enjoy the process of it too. The anticipation for the result each time after I placed my paper on the roller or after I manually pressed/rolled it was unforgettable. I have many scrap works and below are some images of the monoprints I did.

Generating Ideas for Line Expressions:

Early in week 1 and 2, I thought of using stapler bullets, pencil shavings and baby powder as external 3D mediums to create lines and effects.

The Image above fits the lyrical emotion to me. With soft brush curves and irregular thin lines varied with different pressure applied.

Whereas the two images above fit the aggressive or psychotic emotion to me. With harsh line strokes and scratches.

The image feels more bizarre to me with the strange shape ‘spring’ lines within it. This effect was achieved by spraying water on to the paper, followed by dripping paint on it.

Our hands have lines too! So I have decided to mark out my finger and hand prints on tracing paper.

I created a fish by accident while playing with chinese ink as shown in the image above, and I thought I should share it!
