I have narrowed down and picked out 6 Point of Views of David from my previous chunk of brainstorming work of my brother as my subject matter. They are:
- A cockroach from the POV of David is a time bomb.
- Bushes from the POV of David are evil forces.
- A shopping mall from the POV of David is the dance floor.
- An iphone from the POV of David is the radio.
- Birthday cake from the POV of David are chicken drumsticks.
- Pocket money from the POV of David is a packet of tissue paper.
After finalizing my above POV choices, I went on to brainstorm on how to effectively depict his views about things in contrast to how ‘ordinary’ people like us, view the same things as.
I felt that it was important to show a contrast between both views and thus, why not place them side by side! I chanced upon this artist named Ben Heine.
Ben Heine:
He is a Belgian multidisciplinary artist. I was inspired by his ‘Pencil Vs Camera’ artworks and they were amazing! He blends drawing and photography in a unique way. Here, he adds his imagination in to a photograph by placing his pencil drawing over the actual setting/scene (imagination meets reality).

I planned to adopt his style by drawing a piece of torn paper on to my composition. Inside the composition would be David’s Point of View which is the main focus in my composition.
Below are my idealization and initial sketches of my 6 compositions!
A cockroach from the POV of David is a time bomb.
Bushes from the POV of David are evil forces.
A shopping mall from the POV of David is the dance floor.
An iphone from the POV of David is the radio.
Pocket money from the POV of David is a packet of tissue paper.
The Flip side!
Birthday cake from the POV of David are chicken drumsticks.
I have decided to include parts of David’s body like his hands and legs into each composition and I drew them from David’s point of view. This is so that my viewer can better relate and connect with David. I want them to step into David’s shoe to see things the way he sees. (To literally step into the theme of this project, Point of View).
I further enhanced this experience and meaning into my work by:
♦ Asking my brother himself to be a part of my project.
♦ Planning on how to present my work to my viewers on presentation day.
My brother coloured the composition within the torn paper drawing, colouring his own point of views which were the time bomb, evil forces, dance floor, radio, tissue paper packet and chicken drumsticks. I was initially afraid that he would have a hard time colouring on a small piece of ‘torn paper’, but it turned out awesome! I was so amazed with my brother’s colouring skill. He was pretty good with precision and choice of colour. Furthermore, he was more than willing to help me when I asked him which touched my heart.
Here is a short video of him colouring!
And some snapshots :
Compositions after colouring:
I used paper materials that are slightly tinted in light brown colour with a ‘raw’ texture look. I also distressed the boarders of each composition, to make the whole look come together better when all the compositions were laid side by side. Purpose was also to achieve a dull look, so that my brother’s coloured area within the ‘torn paper’ composition would stand out.
As I wanted my viewers to really step into the shoes of my brother, I have decided make 3 pairs of spectacle frames to fit all my 6 composition in to the frame. The spectacle frames also represents my brother’s spectacle he wears everyday.
Trial and errors in making the the frame:
(Constructed bracing with wires and cut out cupboards in attempt to make the paper stay upright). But forgoed the idea.
In the end, I have decided to make little cupboard stands from a tissue paper box. (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle right?) This was supposed to hold the frames so that the wire between the frames could position at an angle.
To mimic the look of spectacles, I added nose pads and blue foam to make it 3 Dimension.
The Final Look!! Theme for each set:
1st spectacle frame set: Fear
2nd spectacle frame set: Hobby
3rd spectacle frame set: Favourite Food
Photographs of David!
Once again, here is my really messy work station!
