Final Piece
The final drawing shows me holding a camera and recording down a singer’s performance during a concert. I attended a fan festival held early this year and this piece of work is based on my memories and reference photos.
Living in the moment VS recording down memories
With the rapid advancement of technology, have we become slaves of smartphones and social media as we thrive to share every “cool” moment to the World? This final piece aims to reflect on whether more people have decided to ignore reality for a virtual alternative on a screen. Or is it that such a behavior has enabled us to capture more interesting moments to look back on in the future via a more vivid storage option.
Subject
I chose to place the background at a concert, showcasing a singer, which is something I deem as “cool and worthy” enough to share and record. Many others were also using their phones/camera to record what was happening.
Elements used
Negative spaces was for the light strobes, which added on to the composition and highlighted the lively setting. To show a sense of space, I used sharper edges for my hand and camera, soft edges for performers and blurry mark making for the audiences on the other sides of the stage. Texture and mark making was used to color in the hair/shape of the audience near me.
Below are reference photos taken by me at the Fan Festival

  1. Indeed. People are holding up phones and cameras in cocerts instead of banners like how it used to be. Great skill in shading negative space to show the lights on stage
