The need to groom oneself leads to the loss of individuality; a dangerous outcome. Fusing a comb and a knife – the comb representing grooming and the blade, as the handle, implying possible harm to the user – “Pretty Hurts” provokes consideration of the implications of conforming to standards of physical beauty.
