Hi guys, first of all, I would like to congratulate everyone for finishing our first 2D assignment!!! Well done ppl!!! Thanks a lot for all your advices and critiques, will definitely learn and improve from there.
To recap, my 4 chosen attributes are as follows:
1.My surname Ho in Chinese (何). Reason behind is because I come from a traditional Chinese speaking family, so I have chosen to incorporate elements of Chinese culture into all my designs. so starting with my surname, I was born in the year of the horse, my name and the zodiac animal are incorporated in the piece.
2.My horoscope Aries + Taurus in Chinese ( Tauries ). Living in a Westernized Singapore, I have also faced western influences so, i have created this piece that consist of 2 of my horoscopes. My birthday is on April 20th, which falls under the mid of the mth, some say i am a aries and some say i am a taurus, so i am a tarries Because I would say that I actually possess certain characteristics traits from aries and taurus. These traits are, for example, energetic, independent, courageous, generous etc.
3. My personality as a Outdoorsy person, Chinese word chosen is Forest (森).I am very spontaneous and also a very outdoorsy person. I love nature and wildlife and exploring all its wonders as i love travelling and camping. I really think the forest is a place i feel most at ease besides home of cos. the serenity and tranquility and is something that I cannot find in a concrete jungle.
4.I am a Dreamer in Chinese ( 梦 ). The Chinese word is dream or meng and is encapsulated by owls. I am someone who works best at night but i am also very active in the day, i have boundless energy and fatigue is rarely on my mind. I am jus a very goal driven person. Besides that , being in a design school is great to have dreams. I have placed owls there so show the importance of vision n foresight. I hoped that when I finally graduate, I will achieve this n become a better designer.
So my chosen style is Chinese Calligraphy plus Ink and Water art. Reason why I used this 2 techniques is because other friends have told me i am very mellow and spontaneous, somewhat like water. there is a very famous quote from bruce lee that says, “Be like water, you must be shapeless, formless, like water “ so this is very similar to the style of my art work, by dripping ink onto water it gives me the kind of fluidity and smoothness of it by letting the ink forms the shape naturally.
Medium:
After several attempts on trying ink and water art on different papers, I have decided to use canvas board as my final choice. Canvas board are thick and are very useful in forming nice gradients from the ink on water art but, one of the downside is that I couldn’t find the proper A5 size for it, so I am really sorry. Good thing is, I get to simulate the kind of Chun lian style that people often see it on the streets and I get to have a bit more space to do it vertically and creatively.
- Canvas Board x 8 ( Spares for mistakes )
2. Water brush of different stroke size for tiny details
3. Calligraphy Brush ( Big and Small size )

My surname Ho

By using Ink and water art, I get different gradient of black as you can see at the bottom of my artwork. Which I find it really nice and it shows how fluid can actually worked on canvas board. My surname Ho is being embraced by a horse within it.
My Horoscope Tauries
The combination of Aries and Taurus word in Chinese. (羊 + 牛) to form the head of the creature. I really like the simplicity of how it turns out, hopefully people can easily relate to my horoscope.
Adventurous/Outdoorsy
My growing interest in being a outdoorsy person. The Chinese word means Wood, which comprises of 3 similar elements. Similar to my artwork, I started off as the root of the tree, as I grow older I start to form the shape of the tree and as I grow even older, I will reach the peak of the mountain. So life is full of ups and downs, why not live your life to the fullest.

I am a Dreamer ( 梦 )
This artwork somehow represent ying and yang, which to me, it means day and night and is like a circular daily cycle. so there are 3 hidden owls inside. Can you spot it? =) and lastly, I have replaced the strokes of the chinese word into the eyes of the owl.
In conclusion, the first 2 artwork is something in me which i cannot change at all. Whereas for the other 2 traits, is something that I have grown interest of or have realised it through my journey in life.
Final Product
This project was really an interesting one as I get to know myself better. Also, through the used of different techniques, I get to do more explorations and finding my own kind of unique style. Thanks to Prof joy, I would say she really do gives me a lot of insight and good advices for my future aspect in Viscom. Thank you.
Lastly, not to forget my favourite Idol > Bruce Lee
