[Inspiration Ideation]

Inspired by the Chinese Oriental Days from the past, I visited the Chinese temple in Singapore to gain inspiration on how the culture is. I was greatly drawn to how majestic and how grand the Chinese atmosphere is. Drawn way back to the past, the Chinese inking and woodblock printing is a technique which people used during the days. This was my initial ideation.Screen Shot 2016-09-08 at 9.13.36 PM Screen Shot 2016-09-08 at 9.13.24 PMUsing the mono-printing technique to create the woodblock inking technique of the oriental look.

Going into what I will be focusing. The oriental look which I drew inspiration from:

[Inspired by the rich Chinese culture and its many traditions and belief influenced by Chinese artistic creativity ]

I decided to infuse both the Chinese culture into the modern context by playing with watercolour technique, digital work to showcase the infusing of the mix Chinese culture. I included auspicious items of the Chinese culture. (Usually,/most of their artworks go in one direction only/ they go either anti-clockwise or clockwise direction but in a circular form)

Idea 1:

I plan on having a cover layout which opens the door to the artwork. (As the importance of the Chinese culture includes the dragon and the lion, I am trying to create a narrative to each of the artwork.)- each artwork is consistent but the graphic form is different in each composition. Sounds will be added to emphasise the different mood I want to portray.

Mainly the technique which I will be using will be water colour, digital illustration. I am also planning on the animation part to see which parts should be animated.

I’ll include my sketches in the next post~~

意识 (EGO)

Critique day.

Concept

Koi fishes are the common symbol in the Chinese culture. The movement of the koi represents every ups and downs I often encounter in life. Koi on it’s own represents power, confidence, energetic which helps me express my ego. The use of koi and Phoenix shows the power of women and the way it expresses on its own.

Oriental + Detailed = ME

Adventurous – Obstacle = A BETTER ME

Subjective x Objective = An Ideal Me

Inspiration +/- Freedom = Me in 5 years

The final layout composition on the wall, this marks the end of presentation and also the end of assignment 3.

EGO THOUGHTS COMPOSITION

[意识]

Below are my selected composition that I narrowed it down. Playing around with the composition and details that symbolises me, I did not forget the design principles which i learnt throughout my whole Foundation 2D module.

Having in mind what i want for my overall look, below are some composition that i selected. The colours used in mostly all the composition are contrasting with each other and it also follows the colour scheme that the Chinese used based on the primary research that I was researching on.

Pre-final composition:

WHAT DOES EGO MEANS?

“In this question, ego is a noun that means your consciousness of your own identity. Your ego is your conscious mind, the part of your identity that you consider your “self.” If you say someone has “a big ego,” then you are saying he is too full of himself.”

Assignment 3 is all about confidence and also the way of expressing myself in a unique way. Am into the Chinese characters and the ideation of how the Chinese culture evolve. Below are some illustrated paintings i did during my process and ideation.
