The law and order of the Earth come from “up there”, otherwise known as the Star City. Sounds pretty narcissistic if you ask me. Like really.

The Old Council live up there. They are the ones who pass the laws and legislatures. Many on the Old Council have powers that are way beyond that of any of us. Many are old, like really old. It’s known that at least 2 of them up there have been living since the time of the ancient wars – when mankind waged war amongst themselves over knowledge and power. One really wonders how hard they worked in school to get to that stage, how much knowledge one must have gotten to attain such abilities.

The main purpose of the council is to keep the balance between mankind. They, from the very beginning when education was limited, have continued to do so till today. And honestly, though the system isn’t always the best, I guess I understand why it’s in place.

The downside of this system is that there are many people not in Star City, which makes those more privileged look down on Earth dwellers. Even those with better abilities on Earth look down on the lesser ones.

There have been a few uprisings lately though. People on Earth who believe they shouldn’t be looked down upon, or shouldn’t have to live with such injustice. But at the end of the day, we can’t escape it. We can’t escape the fact that knowledge is in fact power.

I had a dream once. A dream to one day go up there. And work for the council. To see if I could, in any small way, make the world a better place. Long have I given up on that dream though. There isn’t much of a point anymore. Is there?
