2D 2 Project 2 Zine Research ||
The second time I went to River valley and spent another morning there. I went to some new places.
Leonie Hills – A place full of condominiums~
It started raining just as I came out from the MRT station. On the way to seek shelter, I discovered this place, the high commission of India. However, the security guard did not allow me to take pictures.
Only the sign board.

Arrived at the last place, the Buddhist Lounge. Great place which I did not know earlier.
2D 2 Project 2 Zine Research | River Valley
Time for this Project 2~
I got my location which is River Valley. I am actually quite happy as at first I just want to get somewhere in the central area so that I don’t have to travel too far haha. When I think of River Valley, the only thing that I know will be River Valley High School and after I Googled it, its at Boon Lay… So I went there (an area of it as it quite big ) in the morning which is the 3 One Three Hill. I was lost in the construction site after I alight from the bus but lucky google map saved me.
When I was walking around the neighbourhood, I can only say all the rich people live there and there are all the terrace houses. Its very quite and peaceful and few people on the streets. I took some pictures there and in the end I started shooting different gates which I found the various designs interesting…
I also went to Kim Yam Road after that and walk around a bit. The exploration is very fun and I enjoyed the day. However, I am still thinking about the theme of my Zine and maybe I will go back to the places and do more research before I decide on it.
2D 2 Project 1 Que Sera Sera FINAL
So, we had critique today and here’s some of the WIP pictures and my final designs for the four occupations.

That is it! It was really a fun project and I had learnt a lot along the process of creating them like how to express the job as typography. Looking forward to Project 2!
2D 2 Project 1 Que Sera Sera Process
This week after the research and exploration, I have decided all my jobs which are:
Gambler
3D Modeller
Astronomer
Chinese Calligraphy Artist
I did some brainstorming for each of the ideas and here are some sketches.
After some consultation, I make my mind and chose the one the I like the most from these ideas.
For Gambler, I will use the idea of a jackpot slots machine. As it gives people a direct idea of gambling and the characters of my name will be appearing in the slots. Challenge is to make the type more obvious and stand out in the graphics.
For 3D Modeller, I will create some 3 dimensional objects with some softwares and render them out. Still need to work on it more as I still haven’t come out with the final design of the objects. Some reference image.
For Astronomer, the idea now is to create a moon surface and the typography will appear as the craters on it. (Low poly moon??)
For the Chinese Calligraphy Artist, it will be straight forward. Either using chinese ink to create my name or I am thinking to design a stamp.
Gonna to work for the draft of my finals next and hope I can finish them soon!

2D 2 Project 1 Que Sera Sera Research
For this first project, we will have to create typography portraits using our names. We have to combine conceptual images and letters to convey the information which are the future jobs. Typography is simply the art and the technique of arranging type. It provides more details throughout the design and make more straight forward to the people that see it. To come out with my own typography is kind of exciting as I have never been into typography before and therefore, I googled some artist’s works that I feel are quite cool.
For this one, as its related to LED, it really uses the light into the design. It brings the product directly to its audience which I feel is very creative.
This piece is actually 2D but it creates the 3D feel~
It uses mixed media and it gives a balanced and mysterious feel. However, the owl is more obvious than the words.
(Andy Warhol) When the colour and the font are correct, we will know what is it. This design has been kept constant for years, its simple and yet very classic.It does not feel old and its very attractive due to its colours used. I think its the power of design.
The four jobs that I plan to do for typography are:
Astronomer
3D Modeller
Gambler

Overall, I am still thinking on how to customise each design. I hope to make them simple but portray the messages effectively using different elements like the choice of the font, size, colour, visuals… So stay tuned for my works, coming soon!
