4D 2 Project 2 – Evocative Object Research + Process

After discussing with Michael, we had a clearer view of this project. We should not create the sound track for a video but to install a sound for an object around ADM. Therefore, we came out with other ideas. Like the scary stairs which make use of horror sounds at each step and the talking rubbish bins. In the end, we decided to do the talking rubbish bins which seems more fun and interactive.

It is basically using the normal bins vs the recycling bins. There will be pleasing or annoying sounds coming out from the respective bins. For example, when a can is being thrown into the normal bins, there will be sounds like toilet flushing. It should attract the attention of the people throwing it and make them think of their act. Will it be better if they can categorise the rubbish properly and throw into the recycling bins? We thought it will be pretty interesting if we could do this in the public.

Some of the sounds that we will be using.

However, the difficult part is the technology of presenting this project. When the object is being thrown into the bins, there should be a sensor scanning the moving objects and produce the correct sound for them. We may not really create the sensor but we have to research and understand the meaning of how it works. Then, we could find some ways out.

In the end, we uses a speaker and connect to the phone. During the final day, we will demo it manually. We will have our classmates to try it test it outlaughing

Hopefully, it will work out fine.
