A short exercise in class where we were given a chosen object and asked to interact with it. It’s interesting to see how everyone interacted with the objects without being told what specifically to do, and for most cases, it was instinctive.
“The Butterfly Dress” is a technology incorporated dress that has 40 fabric butterflies attached to it that can flutter and fly when its sensors are activated, either when a person comes close or when it is controlled via a mobile device.
“Many of us will overlook the mundane, everyday objects we see in our day-to-day; such a concept is exactly what photographer Charles Pétillon chose to explore in his latest series called ”INVASIONS.”” The white balloons are a metaphor to change the way we see our everyday objects.
“Crystal Universe” is an interactive art piece that involves the movement of the viewer. 60,000 LEDs are suspended in the 3D space. When a viewer steps into the space, a change is seen in the lights in the entire space and this change will continue to be indefinite with the viewer at the core.
To me, the moment where I feel like I am executing best is when the work I am doing is something I am passionate about, and that momentum keeps me going in the flow. For this particular event that I was involved in, what kept me motivated was the desire to make the event as good as possible, as it represented the school on a national level.
Time is a reflection. It is essential to grasp the right momentum for the work piece we work on; if it’s too slow viewers would be bored, if it’s too fast viewers may miss out on the full experience of the work.
This project is by Cindy and myself, where we fulfilled that curiosity in us of incorporating common DJ-ing gestures (i.e. disc scratching, volume control, playlist) in our set up. These gestures were programmed to manipulate the songs in how it would have been with a real DJ set.
The reference of our emulation is from Benayoun Maurice, titled “Tunnels around the World”. (2013)
We liked and wanted to achieve the zooming effect of the images as a transition into another scene. For our emulation, instead of images, we used videos. And the trigger, using face detection instead of motion tracking. We also added sound elements to make it more interesting.
The following is our emulation titled “Travelogue”. Our intention behind this emulation was to provide a more interactive narrative to viewers. The rationale is that in any mode of story telling, if the audience does not pay attention, there is no engagement between the story and the audience. Therefore, we aim to strike a connection with the viewers of our emulation. This is done by using face detection as a trigger for the audio and transition of our video. (i.e. when viewer looks at screen, video transits to next scene along with audio, however when viewer looks away, the video just continues playing in the background but audio is muted).
