2D Sketch + 3D Model Analysis – Pandora

MY INTERESTING OBJECT

An object that I found interesting and decided to share with the class on the first week was a green crystal rock. I thought this object was interesting because it can look different from many angles and has a very angular structure all around. It has a solid mass/volume which has an irregular structure.

Although my object is made up of a range of green hues, some parts are white while other areas are translucent. It also creates a range of cross sectional areas when divided at any angle and is asymmetrical.

2D SKETCH ANALYSIS

My 2D sketch analysis portrays an image of the top profile of my object. The highlighted areas shown above are named as the subdominant of my object since they lie as the highest point on the rock and protrudes out the most when laid flat (contrasting most with the dominant). Therefore, the remaining lower lying surface area is named as the dominant. In the case of my object, there is no presence of a subordinate. After discussion within the class, I applied the term ‘negative void’ to the surrounding areas of my object as well as areas between the concavity of the crystal rock.

3D SKETCH MODELS

To carry out our 3D sketch model task, we had to organize our boxes of rectilinear volumes into clusters of 3 (dominant, subdominant and subordinate). We then had to identify the principal axis of each box and ensure that each box is placed perpendicularly to one another. The word that I had to structure my boxes to was Hierarchy.

The first model that I created portrays a more direct definition of ‘hierarchy’. The symmetrical structure of this 3d model allows it to stand on different ends and equally represent a hierarchy.

The second model that I created has an asymmetrical structure.
