3D: Ikebana (Spring)

Research for Ikebana inspirations:

Alder branches, Tulips, pine.
Variation no. 2, slanting moribana.

I wanted to create a simple but guiding flow for the branches, to make the fruit/food I am going to use stand out like the flower in this picture.

FINAL MODEL

Spring

Choice of ingredients:  Strawberry, Grape, Apple, Marsh mellow, Melon Pudding

They all are sweet, and sweets are normally eaten in spring in Japan.
I chose apples and strawberries in order to represent fruits bearing in spring.
The grape and melon help to bring the red out, both are also cooling desserts. Which people enjoy to eat in spring.
The marshmallow represents the blooming of flowers on the branch.

Branch:

Helps create a more dynamic composition.
Creates a circular dominant void.
Draws the viewers eyes to the apple first with the ends pointing towards it.

Flower:
A red fresh and dried flower, one is light and the other is a darker shade to give tonal value in the piece.

Plate/Japanese paper bag:

Both help to make the pudding blend in to bring focus to the apple first.
The plate and pudding along with the apple is circular.

Sphere: Apple, Marsh mellow, Branch’s void
Cone: Strawberries
Cylinder:  Grapes, Melon Pudding
