Towards Zero Waste!
Representing the four types of waste in food form is a way to show the world our bad attitude – denial. The four, solid, liquid, hazardous and organic, may seem enticing and innocent to eat but the result of that is death. We deny the harsh facts and we choose to live our lives carelessly as the world dies. If we continue to consume daily innocent products mindlessly, we are directly hurting ourselves and the future generation. We must recognise that. This sculpture, shines a different light on waste – one that is tempting to consume – but in turn shines different light on us; a reflection. It strives to remind people the simple hard truth.
By taking our daily lives as inspration, we as mankind, find it hard to accept the simple hard truth.
The concept starts with us, as people of the world. We forget daily that we need to take care of our home.
Ridiculously huge amounts of rubbish amounted into hills are forgotten, and we choose to fool and distract ourselves with worldly material – eventually causing the death of us. Innocent daily life becomes a sin, till we change it.
What may seemingly be innocent food items, represented into the 4 types of waste(solid, liquid, hazardous, organic), will kill us if we choose to keep eating (consuming) it. We would rather lie to ourselves than to know we are intoxicating ourselves and our future children.
I first started moulding newspaper together into the shapes desired. Then taking strips of more newspaper and glue to smooth out the surface to paint.
