4d: Sketch Video + Improvements

The video shows us an isolated viewpoint that indirectly imply a sense of relationship. Accompanied by sounds of nature, which represent the calmness and unspoken joy, the video demonstrates selective observation of someone in endearment.

I took a series of closeups of someone hoping that it would show a viewpoint of someone in love. It might be too much and a single 1-2min shot of a focused viewpoint would be stronger in portraying my message. Something like what I have researched in my previous post.

This is my first try.

General Feedback:

  • Although I have achieved the vintage old look, my designs need to be more exciting.
  • Quotes need to be iconic of the movie.
  • Designs must be reflective of the quote and not the movie, in order to avoid clichés.
  • Find KEYWORDS in quotes and reflect them in my designs.
  • Choose interesting characters to put in my design.
  • Use composition, repetition, scale and other design elements to help communicate the quote visually.

Drawing ICA 1: Drawing in Negative Space

For our first class we were tasked to draw in negative space. I did not really get it at first and was a bit nervous to start drawing in the canteen. When I saw the example drawn in the canteen, I was shocked that I could not make out what he is drawing but it all came alive as he started shading.

Above is my attempt. I am quite disappointed with it because now, I somehow I understand the concept of drawing in negative space where its okay if lines don’t match up to form one complete shape. Because when you fill in the negative space it the eye starts to see the picture even tho not all details are drawn completely.

I’d like to try this again one day to see if I can master drawing in negative space!
