Anger

Personally, I don’t like to hold on to anger because I find it very negatively exhausting on myself. Hence, I found it hard to think and reconnect myself back to that intense feeling of anger.

People who make me angry are myself, my older sister and just little things that annoys me. I also get angry when I’m tired, mainly because I’m not as productive as when I’m not tired and I get impatient with myself.

I see harsh hard squiggly lines made with the pencil. They express the deep frustrations and questions I ask myself in anger. This is when I start to boil before I reluctantly want to erupt.

Nervousness

It was just so happen that my group had a presentation to do that day so I conveniently felt very nervous at that time. I also get anxious when I talk to strangers and I experience a lot of anticipations pains before doing something or expecting something to happen.

Shaky sharp lines represent the jittery-ness in my heart, the dizziness, and the surges of nervous pains that resonate in my hands and sometimes feet.

Happiness

Whenever I think about happiness, I think about my boyfriend. Before I met him I was a very negative person. Meeting him filled my life with positivity. It’s always a happy day with him around.

The uncontrollable lines I think are a representation of laughter and endless inside jokes that we have. And the top lines are fainter because he does not just fill me with laughter, he teaches me good things and the person I should become and it somehow make me feel at peace and calm.

Sadness

Sadness reminded me of my childhood that were filled with personal family problems. Again it was hard to reconnect with those feelings because I find it hard to have to fill myself with negativity.

The faint lines are a representation of weakness, harsher lines are a built up of sadness resulting into anger and leading to the questions of “why?

The messiness reminds me of feeling of lost that was mostly what I felt as a child.

MEMORY DRAWING: Homework

Love (Envy)
P8308446

The styrofoam swift harsh and squiggly lines remind me of anger you feel because you don’t want anyone talking to someone you like. You feel like they are better than you.

The leaf has some uniformity in it however it increases in intensitiy as it goes lowly. It shows the built up of messy and in denial thoughts about being envious.

Love (Lust)

P8308447

The lines in lust represent the flow of the body. The both physical and mental emotions that goes high.

Anger (Hunger)

P8308443

I used ginger to do one of my anger that shows hunger. I wanted to show that warm nasty feeling in your stomach when it’s empty and that anger that arises because you feel weak and you can’t eat in class or you are less efficient.

Hence, the intense ink in some places but yet the blended-ness but still having texture.

Anger (Unaccomplished)

P8308445

The disappointment you feel when you’ve let yourself down because you failed in something. The extreme intense ink build with swift movement

MARK MAKING TOOLS: ICA

Styrofoam – messy with patchy intense ink, pattern forms from styrofoam circles

P8308427

Comb – uniform lines creates dots, lines. it is able to create arcs

P8308425

Rope – creates a snake like pattern which is continuous, since it absorbs the ink some parts are patchy

P8308426

Inside of rambutan skin – I like the pattern that the inside of the rambutan gives. It is blotchy without me having to try and has a define shape because of how it is peeled

P8308431

P8308430

Cotton Swab – smooth lines that fade off at the end

P8308429

Outside of Rambutan skin – the hairs works like a paintbrush. some hairs are sparse and show individual strokes. Some are clumped together and ink gets absorbed more creating blobs of ink

MARK MAKING: Homework

Ginger

Ginger makes a great mark making tool. All sides make interesting patterns and textures. Edges kind of create rough texture of vertical lines. While the side gives a pattern due to its natural form and dryness.

Side

Both

Dragonfruit

Dragonfruit has very nice stems. I used both stems. One of them is dry and creates hexagonal patterns. While the other side creates almost like a flower pattern which makes overlapping very geometrical.

P8308438

Cauliflower

Cauliflower creates dots when used on its head. But it also creates a messy design using both head and stem. Steam absorbs ink which results in patchy ink work.

Conclusion

I want to try with black water colour, black acrylic paint, charcoal, oil pastels and dry pastel colours too. I might want to try on black paper too to see what kind of effect I get. I’ll try to use negative space in my final product to make things more dynamic!

2d Emo: Experimenting

For mark making tools, I chose rambutan skin, twigs, netting and a pipette. I used India Ink that I just so happened to have in my home.

I’m still thinking of what kind of lines I can do with each emotion, doodling might help with the motion of the lines that I can do with the rambutan skin which is my favourite tool to use so far. It is quite flexible with what it can do. Can’t wait to share with my friends tomorrow!
