Each pair of artist-broadcasters will run a technical test between laptop and mobile phone, or between laptop and laptop, finding locations in ADM where there is no bandwidth lag so that the transmission is a success. Then take the archived broadcasts, embed them in the OSS posts of each member, and describe the results of the technical experiment.

The above is the cross streaming with Zifeng for our broadcasting project.  This project is about broadcasting the interpretation of the five stages of drunkenness. At the start, pace of the video is slow and environment is benign. Towards the ending, we explore the several stages of drunkenness which allows us to add layers upon this project. As environments are very critical we decided Read more →

[Internet Art & Culture] Cross Stream Broadcast Technical Test

Dina

@ Putri Dina

Technical Test Round 1 The first round of cross stream broadcast we had in class last week was quite a disaster. Although the Facebook live streaming from the phone worked well, the one that was cross streaming on the laptop was incredibly lagging.

Tiffany and I conducted a technical test before the actual broadcasting and situated our ‘base’ in the library. I Read more →

OBS Technical Test

@ Mirei's Studio

Anam and I did some technical testing, with him being Facebook live on the phone.

I could hear sound coming from his video from my recorded live stream (from OBS), and communicate with Anam through the comment on the live video.

Hopefully this will go smoothly when we play Simon Says during our cross streaming project as well!

Portray.

This is a collective interactive online artwork by Win Saw and Isaac.

What is this piece about?

We intend to find out how human to human communication exists with the use of a medium that takes users into the third space and how willing are users to participate in making an art piece.

The first test was the connection within the school. There Read more →

"The World's First Collaborative Sentence" - How long is it exactly?

@ Chuwypotter

How long is it exactly?

By now, it would have been done with several trips around the earth. The world’s longest collaborative sentence is a very intriguing internet artwork by Douglas Davis in 1994. A year after I entered this world.  What this artwork is, is probably the conceptualisation of Super Participation using a digital/online platform. In my opinion, the onset Read more →

very good! I liked your realization that the Web is a reflection of who we are, and in so many ways: through how we represent ourselves, our avatars and identities, social relations, and as communities. And yes, people do care about the content of the Web as artworks, that it requires the same level of attention as all artworks do. I'm glad this piece opened your eyes to the Web as a medium that is truly reflective of our contemporary world.

“The 1s and 0s of digital art degrade far more rapidly than traditional visual art does, and the demands of upkeep are much higher.”

If there is one thing “The World’s Longest Collaborative Sentence”, an internet piece created by artist Douglas Davis in 1994, could teach us is Read more →

It's very interesting that you pointed out the first sentence of the World's Longest Collaborative Sentence, because it recognizes the fact that the world was becoming smaller with the advancement of the Internet and the World Wide Web. And yes, you are absolutely correct, preservation of net art is as important, if not more complicated than traditional art. A painting will last hundreds of years, but net art starts to break down with a few. What does that say about how we can archive digital art? Excellent research.

Technical testing with Hannah

Joan

@ Joan

Testing 1 (Hannah’s phone, Joan’s laptop)

The first test run was still pretty laggy despite the change of location especially during the first half of the video. It might be due to weak internet near the toilet and fetching of the live video through OBS was very slow. Despite the interrupted connection, the live footage from the phone was very smooth.
